A manipulated video, falsely presented as a transmission of the ABS-CBN news patrol, recently extended on Facebook, claiming that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. blocked the Elon Musk Musk cryptocurrency platform in the Philippines.
Data verifiers in Pressone.Ph confirmed that the video was false, with images taken from unrelated events. Deepfake Technology, who uses AI to create realistic but false means, continues to raise challenges to distinguish the real manipulated content.
NPC eliminates iris scanning warning for cryptocurrency
The National Privacy Commission (NPC) issued a notice on February 20, 2025, warning the Philippines about Iris scan for cryptocurrencies, stating that it does not authorize or approve that data collection. However, the notice and a publication related to Facebook have been eliminated since then, asking questions about the position of the NPC.

Before elimination, the NPC emphasized that biometric data is confidential under the data privacy law and warn about risks such as identity theft and fraud.
