Dmitry V., former CEO of Russia-based WEX, was detained in Warsaw at the initiative of Polish authorities following an extradition warrant issued by the United States. Dmitry is accused of fraud and money laundering through WEX, which succeeded BTC-e, which closed in 2018. Currently sentenced to twenty years in prison in Lithuania, Dmitry has previously been arrested in Poland in 2021 and in Croatia in 2022. WEX allegedly handled $9 billion and is still associated with $450 million embezzlement. This is another phase of crypto regulation following Alexander Vinnik’s ruling regarding BTC-e operations.
