Gasless Voting, Onchain | BinanX News

We are delighted to announce a transformative update for Mainnet DAOs: introducing chain voting without gas. This milestone marks a major advancement for on-chain governance, allowing DAOs to offer a free, secure, cross-chain voting experience for members.

Mainnet DAO participants can now cast votes for free with the latest update to our Multichain Governance plugin. This iteration integrates LayerZero V2 to aggregate votes into the voting chain, which are then broadcast and compiled into the local chain. Also take advantage ZKsyncs native account abstraction and txSyncTsuko’s Tsuko Paymaster functionality, which subsidizes voting gas costs for DAO members. The plugin is independent of the bridge, the chain and the payer. DAOs can integrate solutions of their choice.

In DAO governance, staking is not just a metric: it is the foundation of security and legitimacy. However, high gas fees have consistently hampered voter participation, forcing many DAOs to resort to off-chain solutions that compromise security, censorship resistance, and trust minimization. execution on the chain.

Our solution brings accessible voting back on-chain, allowing DAOs to maintain the security of on-chain governance while casting votes for free. This not only improves the DAO member experience, but encourages more active participation to ensure that all stakeholders have a say.

Since our initial launch of Multi-chain governance complement in November 2023, we have continued to be relentless in our pursuit of solving these critical on-chain governance challenges. This is what this new iteration brings:

  • Vote from any EVM chain: DAOs can now designate any secondary chain for voting, and LayerZero seamlessly adds votes to the primary chain. Minimal bridging is required: users simply connect their tokens to the desired chain and the system takes care of the rest.
  • Gasless Voting via Payer Integration: Using ZKsync’s native account abstraction, we have implemented a payment workflow, with tx syncThe Tsuko payer, subsidized by Aragon, covers all gas costs for votes cast on ZKsync, allowing for truly gas-free voting for DAO participants.
  • Perfect User Experience: A customizable interface streamlines the process, allowing users to pool tokens and vote in one place, ensuring a seamless and integrated experience.
  • Unified cross-chain execution: With the built-in LayerZero OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) integration, DAOs can scale governance and run propositions across as many chains as needed, while maintaining a single, cohesive permission system controlled by token holders across all chains. .
  • Modular and composable design: Our plugin is built from loosely coupled modular components, making it adaptable to the unique needs of any DAO. Whether by changing the bridge protocol, the chain, or adding new governance features, the system can evolve with the requirements of the DAO.

These are the key steps to approve a proposal:

  1. bridge tokens: Members can connect tokens from the execution chain to the voting chain before proposal creation. Members can also remain in the execution chain and returning is always an option.
  2. Create proposal: Members with the minimum amount of tokens set by the DAO can create proposals.
  3. Voting phase: Eligible members vote directly in the voting or execution chain, and votes are aggregated until submitted.
  4. Shipping Votes: Aggregated votes are sent from the voting chain to the execution chain.
  5. Receive votes: The execution chain validates and updates the proposal’s vote balance with the votes received.
  6. Execute proposal: The proposal is executed on all chains included in the proposal.

Aragon DAOs must install the Multichain Governance v2 (Toucan Voting) plugin and link it with a dedicated UX. Our team can help with implementation and installation. Below is a diagram of the technical architecture of the plugin. For more information, see the GitHub repository.

Our commitment to solving these challenges and advancing on-chain governance is unwavering. In the future, we are exploring the use of storage testing with RISC Zero to further streamline the voting process by eliminating the need for bridges and allowing custom compilation of multi-chain censuses. Our collaboration is paving the way for these next-level innovations and we look forward to sharing more details soon.

Multichain constructions are complex. We develop governance technology so you can focus on developing your protocol.
