Recently I sat down with Vitor Pomplona, creator of Nostr Client AmethystTo discuss how Nostr in 2025 looks a lot like how Bitcoin was in 2012, a bit difficult at the edges, but exciting to use.
OurA decentralized protocol for social networks and other forms of communication is only four years old, and developers are still discovering how to create the best possible user experience within the customers they have created. These customers include applications such as Primitive (which is comparable Ax) to Eggs (which is like Instagram) for Yakihonne (which is similar to substitution).
However, the only thing Nostr’s customers is that users can “zap” (send small amounts of) bitcoin with each other to show appreciation for the content that their fellow users have created.
And Pomplona is optimistic that more and more Nostr clients are beginning to win traction, just as Bitcoin began to do it 13 years ago.
“We are starting to see that communities are being formed and more money is transferred,” Pamplona told Bitcoin magazine in the interview.
A creative economy fed by Bitcoins
Pomplona acknowledged that part of the purpose of social networks is to allow the media for users to monitor what they create so that they cannot do in their physical environment.
“[Some social media] Users want to make a living, “said Pomplona.” They have the hope that they can achieve more with social networks of what they can alone or in their cities. “
Pamplona believes that Nostr’s clients can help transform that hope into a reality, and it is their mission to help users do this.
“That is our ultimate goal: if we can take creators to the point where they can make a living, we will win as a platform.”
This potential for users to win life with Nostr become older every day, especially as the Nostr users base expands and continues to grow as the world’s largest bitcoin circular economy.
Amethyst
When creating Amethyst, Pamplona had a vision for a Nostr client that served as an all -in -one application, which was inspired by a plan similar to that Elon Musk had for X (previously Twitter).
“Amethyst arrived at the same time that Elon was talking about buying Twitter,” Pomplona explained. “It was like making a mega application out of Twitter, and I went for the same.”
While Pomplona understands that Amethyst did not achieve this, he is excited that he has come to play a different role. It serves as a laboratory for people who develop new Nostr clients.
“Amethyst is helping everyone starts their own applications,” he said. “Waves came from the amethyst.”
Nostr as Bitcoin incorporation tool
Pomplona sees Nostr as an excellent way to incorporate people to Bitcoin, although he does not believe that this is the main objective of Nostr’s clients.
“The main objective of [Nostr] Applications are for people to do their own: make people creative, or talk to their friends or talk with their family, “Pomplona explained.
“No application should talk about Nostr or Bitcoin. They should be what they are,” he added.
Pamplona believes that, after a while, the users of the application will inevitably begin to learn about the Nostr’s self-obese that Nast provides when it comes to users who can control their own data and about Bitcoin.
“[They’ll realize that] It happens that the platform helps them manage their own data and use the best payment protocol we have today ”.
And he stressed that most new users come to Nostr due to resistance to freedom and censorship it offers.
“In the last two years, most Nostr’s new users arrived due to freedom, due to some censorship in their country,” said Pomplona. “And they learned about Bitcoin after that.”
