African blockchain pioneer event
The African Blockchain Championship is a Pan -African competition that brings together and trains developers to use blockchain technology to solve real world problems. The inaugural event is collaborating with a United Nations Division of the Development Program, UNDP ALTFINLABthat will contribute with challenges and use cases for contestants to address during the event. Competitors will have the option of remote assistance or on the site in associated facilities located in the main technical universities.
Unlike most conventional hackatones, participants will have more than a month to learn and build complex blockchain projects, and the desired result is several new viable African companies ready to climb. The teams with the best solutions will get the opportunity to join the second Blockchain SDG accelerator cohort, implemented by UNDP Altfinlab in September 2025.
Why Africa and why now?
The adoption of African cryptocurrencies is on the rise, with a record of $ 125 billion in cryptocurrency transactions between July 2023 and June 2024. In 2023, Nigeria occupied number two in the global cryptographic adoption index. The cultural influence of Africa is undeniable in the film industry through Nollywood, as well as in the music industry, with Afrobeats and Amapiano assuming music lists worldwide.
