Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin showed his full support for the pygmy hippopotamus and donated 10 million Thai baht, Thai fiat currency, to a zoo.
Moo Deng is the name of a pygmy hippopotamus. In September 2024, Moo Deng gained internet fame due to his expressive personality and charming social media videos shared by Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
On December 26, 2024, Khao Kheow Open Zoo authorities officially confirmed that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin joined the Wildlife Sponsorship Program and adopted Moo Deng with a generous donation (donation to the zoo) of 10,000,000 THB (worth almost $292,000).
Vitalik’s donation will be made in two installments; The first donation was completed on December 26, 2024.
In response, Vitalik Buterin thanked the zoo authorities for allowing him to join the culture of saving wild animals and said that, if possible, he would increase the amount of his donation for the zoo animals.
