What is decentralized science (desci)? The next great case of use of blockchain beyond finance and NFT | Bitpins

Blockchain’s role is to make research more fair and accessible making the financing, collaboration and data exchange more open and transparent.

Blockchain is also being used in scientific research through NFT -based intellectual property rights.

In addition, if scientific research is carried out in a decentralized network, such as the main block chains, research data will be safer. This is because the verifiable and auditable nature of these networks can validate and track the process through intelligent contracts.

How does I work?

Similar to other Blockchain organizations, DESCI projects use decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO), which handle decision -making, peer review, data safety and publication.

Because they are decentralized, DESCI projects do not have a centralized entity that manages them, but trust a community of taxpayers.

These taxpayers are rewarded for their contributions to investigation through cryptocurrency.

Here is the common process of desci in the investigation:

DAO Training → Taxpayers join the Stagn tokens → Scientific researchers propose an initiative → Approval through the financing of the DAO → Start of research → peer review → Use of data protected by NFT based on intellectual property → Data collection → DAO Verifies the process → The results are published → The results are protected by intellectual property rights based on intellectual property NFT and are shared with other desci projects.

How to solve traditional scientific research

In traditional scientific research, the approval of large institutions or centralized entities to begin the process is often needed.

In Desci, they help researchers carry out their work without the approval of these institutions.

This reduces entry barriers for scientific research, particularly for financial institutions or small scale that fight with financing and recognition.

However, it should be taken into account that these open financing opportunities can be misused by other projects or bad actors.

Three projects that use desci

In January 2025, the National Data Protection Authority of Brazil ordered the tools for humanity to stop operations in the country from January 25.

This followed an investigation, which began in November 2024, and discovered that the company violated the General Law of Data Protection of Brazil, which emphasizes the need for explicit consent, transparency and minimization of data in the management of personal information.
